Microbiology Laboratory of Melaka Biotechnology Corporation was set up in 2005 with antimicrobial assay on medicinal plants as the main activity. However, 2008 was the turning point for MBC when this organization received a grant from MeCD to fund a project entitled Food and Chemical Testing Laboratories for Entrepreneurs

A. Title : Food & Chemical Testing Laboratory for Entrepreneurs (Microbiology Testing) 

Funded by: MECD

Apart of chemical testing, microbiology laboratory also provide microbiology testing on finished product and in process of food & pharmaceutical samples

a) Total Plate Count

b) Yeast & Mold Count

c) Coliform Count

d) Detection of Salmonella sp.

e) Detection of Escherichia coli

f) Detection of Pseudomonas aeruginosa

g) Detection of Staphylococcus aureus

To equip currently Chemical and Microbiology Laboratories with the required facilities to enable the 2 (two) laboratories offer:

1. Chemical testing services

2. Microbiological testing services to entrepreneurs of small and medium industry.

A. Mbio Research Project : Standardization and Quality Control of Mbio Product

This project collaboration with: Circle Field Sdn. Bhd

B. "Based Learning Project" program with Sekolah Menengah Sains Muzaffar Syah, Ayer Keroh, Melaka (Project title : To determine antimicrobial activity of medicinal plants on certain bacteria)

C. Isolation of lactic acid bacteria from local sources

D. Antimicrobial assay of medicinal plants

E. "Water quality analysis for BIM treatment application on Melaka river at Pasar Borong Melaka" (project collaboration between MIB, Jabatan Pertanian, Pulau Gadong and Perbadanan Pembangunan Pantai Sungai Melaka)

Our Next Target for this Laboratory

To become accredited laboratories, microbiology laboratory in MIB will undergo MS ISO/IEC 17025:2005 Understanding and implementing (general requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories)

Provide microbiology testing for entrepreneurs with less cost of testing charge

Lab personnel must attend more training and related course to sharpen their skills, hence they can become of lab consultant in microbiology field

With sufficient facilities and experienced staff, microbiology laboratory can become research centre for student from different level to do their research related to microbe.
