Technological advances have facilitated research applications to detect foreign DNA may be found in food products. Halal food laboratory detection level can be implemented in two ways, namely the chemical and molecular methods. Alcohol content can be identified by chemical methods and molecular methods can be used to detect DNA found in a product. Now, in Melaka Biotechnology Corporation, both of these methods are in the study in order to analyze the samples in accordance with the requirements of customers who want their food products tested. Most of the solid food samples such as chicken, sausage, and biscuits tested by the Center for Molecular Biology and Halal Science to ensure the absence of foreign DNA, particularly DNA pig in halal food products.
To perform this test, the DNA in food products will be extracted to break the cell walls found in food products are involved to collect enough DNA from the affected food products. Then, the products that were crushed last to be treated with some chemicals to separate waste organelles, fat and pure DNA. After that, the analysis of genomic isolation can be done by doing an analysis to identify the quality and purity of the total DNA was extracted which involves two main analysis through the analysis of 1% agarose gel electrophoresis to detect the presence of DNA in food products involved and DNA quantification by spectrophotometer analysis to identify density DNA was extracted. In addition, DNA analysis to detect pig is also used to support and prove the accuracy of the results obtained, particularly for halal products.
Generally DNA detection techniques in the halal issue was open to research institutions in Malaysia to do more analysis involves the importance of halal food for Muslims in Malaysia. This can be seen through the pig DNA findings in imported food such as pig DNA findings in the branded food sauce abroad. This discovery has opened the eyes of the Muslim consumers to be more careful in choosing the products imported.
In addition, DNA detection techniques in the halal issue can broaden halal food to be exported out of Malaysia. This is because the products recognized by JAKIM must undergo several tests to ensure that a food product is halal. Therefore, every food product that is recognized halal by JAKIM is a quality product, clean and clean. Following this, the Malaysian tourism industry can be improved through increasing the level of confidence of the Muslims all over the world to visit Malaysia to enjoy a meal prepared without a doubt.
